Cavendish Charles Fitzroy

Born in 1833, the eldest son of Lord Fitzroy, MP for Bath, he was educated at Harrow. He joined the 82 Regiment in 1850 as an Ensign and in 1851 moved to the 68 LI. He fought in the Crimea at Alma, Balaclava and Inkerman, but was sent home, as supernumerary, upon being promoted in 1855. He was one of the 500 Crimean veterans personally presented with their Crimea Medal by Queen Victoria at Horse Guards on 18 May 1855. He was Aide-de-Camp to the Lord Lieutenant of Ireland, 1855-57, and the Governor of Madras, 1859-60. He suffered a stroke in 1866 and retired with the rank of Major. Cavendish Fitzroy worked for several London charities until his death in 1894.
